Best in Class Sound Design
Very often, sound design takes a back seat in the ad production. However, the campaign from Dublin Airport Parking is a great example of sound production. In the 40 second spot, we’re told the story of Robert running through Dublin Airport to meet his love who he has been separated from for too long. Little do we know it’s his car that he is running to.
The production is top notch and the meticulous attention to detail helps to bring this ad to life. We are introduced to the story with the bustling sounds of Dublin airport. Passenger announcements can be heard as we hear Robert’s footsteps scuttling across the terminal. To heighten the tension, Lionel Richie’s classic ‘Hello’ is introduced as our character makes his way to the exit. The twist in the copy coincides with the chorus in the song. With impeccable comedic timing, the car alarm disarms to break the tension. As the sales hook is introduced, we hear Robert starting up the car and speeding off into the distance.
A lot of time and effort was taken to assemble the sound effects and to balance them out.. The use of popular music in Irish radio advertising is rare but the selection of Lionel Richie’s classic hit was spot on. A great script with a great production.
